Special Interview with Joy Imanuel, Singer of Two Faces of Arjuna: Get to Know You Closer
First, let’s start off with full name singer Two Faces of Arjuna. Joy Imanuel’s real name is Joseph Imanuel. “Joy” was what her mother called her when she was a baby because Joy liked to smile. “He said, it means God will add more,” said Joy Imanuel.

Joy Immanuel was born on June 22 1999 in Jakarta. Born in June, it is certain that Joy Imanuel has the zodiac sign Cancer. Show your hands, whose zodiac sign is Cancer! Well, apart from having the zodiac sign Cancer, Joy Imanuel really likes music. “I used to like playing games. Maybe more here, starting to not be interested anymore. I used to really want to be a professional gamer. “But now it’s just music,” said Joy Imanuel. Wow, I wanted to be a gamer, but in the end I became a good singer!
Filling his daily life, Joy Immanuel produces many songs which was created by myself. Sometimes, Joy goes to a recording studio to record. Apart from that, Joy also has a music school, so Joy teaches music there. Very talented, apart from producing his own music, Joy shares his musical knowledge with others. Salute!
Since when has Joy liked singing or making music?? “You could say I liked it when I was in middle school, yes. When I was in the school band for the first time. Even playing drums. Well, I just started to like singing maybe in my third year of college. “I realized I could sing,” explained Joy Imanuel.
Who is a very important figure in Joy Imanuel’s singing career? “I would say, there are several people. Firstly, Ci Rachel, my manager. I think she was one of the first people who really believed in me. She really believes in me and my music. I really appreciate that.”
“Secondly, my music teacher in high school. He was one of the people who really encouraged me to take music seriously. In the past, maybe it was just for fun, but in high school band, I take it very seriously. “As a result, it became what it is today,” explained Joy Imanuel.
What rituals will Joy do before singing? “What works for me is that I like to eat crunchy food before singing. The impression is that I prefer to sing when it’s in my throat, like there’s something stuck. It’s more comfortable and obviously the way I sing can be said to be different from the way I should sing. So I like potato chips, fried food, if I have it, drink soda.”
It’s confirmed! Joy Imanuel likes to eat snacks such as potato chips or fried foods before singing. It sounds unusual, but it turns out it provides comfort for Joy. Because, being comfortable in doing something is important!
What does Joy dislike when singing? “There’s no mic stand. If you’re playing guitar, you obviously need a mic stand. But I prefer to use a mic stand even though I don’t play guitar. I don’t like it if the mic stand isn’t high enough. “Because I always put the mic stand at about nose level or between my nose and lips.”
Who is Joy’s role model? “There is one artist in America, Lou Reed. I really like him and his music. How to sing. In a way, I feel like relating to him. The music he creates is really simple. Sometimes it’s just two chords, his voice is normal, but somehow, despite his limitations, there are still people who really like his music and follow him. That seems to be the type of musician I aspire to be too, though.”
One thing people don’t know about Joy? “I’m Batak!”
If Joy doesn’t enter entertainment, what does Joy hope to become? “I was never given my parents’ blessing to pursue a career in the world of music. For example, if this door doesn’t open for me, I probably do an office job. I just want to, if possible, stay involved in the world of music too. And you can eventually build your own business related to music too.”
What musical instrument does Joy master? “Guitar, bass, piano, keyboard, drums, harmonica, violin, ukulele.” Wow, Joy has mastered so many musical instruments. No wonder, Joy is so talented that she can produce her own songs and teach her music knowledge at her music school.
The hope that Joy wants and hasn’t yet come true? “I used to study in America, at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Maybe one of my dreams is that I can go to a gig in America, really. It’s one of those things where I have friends there and I can tell them that I’m playing here. I think that would be really fun.”
Top three songs in your life? “When I was in high school, I really liked the Oasis song ‘Champagne Supernova.’ The second, around college, David Bowie’s ‘Life of Mars.’ If the song that I really play a lot is my own song, ‘Berlari.’
The production process for Joy Imanuel’s latest song project with MD Music? “I remember Saturday morning my producer WhatsApped me about the song, asking me to sing the chorus. At this time I haven’t been told what song, who, what to do. Suddenly, next week’s recording. I just found out that this song is for the OST for the MD Entertainment web series Two Faces of Arjuna. I think this is a really big opportunity for me too because this is really my type of music.”
