Producer Manoj Punjabi has confirmed that Indonesian horror film “Ivanna” is set to be released outside Indonesia. The movie, which is part of the Danur Universe, will first be shown in Indonesian cinemas starting on July 14, 2022. While Punjabi has plans to show the movie in neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore, he is still considering other countries for distribution, including those in the Middle East and Mexico. Punjabi also hopes to promote the movie in commercial festivals but wants to ensure the film receives positive reviews in Indonesia first before reaching out to international audiences.
Punjabi believes that festival juries usually look out for how well a movie was received by the public in its home country before considering it for selection. Considering this, Punjabi strives to first attract the right audience in Indonesia before pursuing a broader audience outside the country. Punjabi acknowledges the challenges that come with promoting Indonesian cinema outside of the country but is dedicated to the cause and won’t settle for just the financial benefits.
“Ivanna” is a horror movie adapted from the book “Danur 2: Maddah” by Risa Saraswati about the ghost character of the same name. Punjabi wishes to see the film succeed both domestically and internationally and is committed to making this a reality with proper planning and execution.
